Mac Won't Detect External Display?

Postby bartholome » Tue Jun 29, 2010 7:59 am

I have a Mac Pro. Bought a mini dvi to rgb. I've tried everything. I put the mac to sleep, then plug in the cable. I tried rebooting. Tried power cycling the monitor. Even tried changing the order of the rgb cables in the inputs to the tv.

I even replaced my cables thinking they may be faulty. Brand new on both occasions. I try to "arrange multiple displays," but it says that it only detects one display so I can't (that being the computer's display itself).

I've unplugged and replugged in all orders, nothing works. My Pro is in excellent condition, I doubt it's a faulty port. I just want to watch the stuff on my mac on my tv. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks in advance!

Mac Won't Detect External Display?

Are you plugging it in to the right ports on the TV? The standard red, white, yellow cables are the composite input/output and carry the audio (red & white) and the video (the yellow). The component type cables are red, green and blue and will only run the video. Your Mac will sense when you have it plugged in right. If you use the component cables, you'll also need an audio cable that plugs into your speaker jacks. Your best bet is to phone Apple, the store, and explain what you want to do. You can pretend you have no cables and you want to buy from them, they will tell you what cables you need and you can figure out if you have the right ones.
