First of all, you have to decide if you want a desktop or a laptop because the iMac is a desktop computer and not very portable. The macbook pro is a laptop.

I don't really know what systems unit is. If that is software check with whoever makes it.

Personally I would get the macbook because laptops are more convenient

Anyways I have had a mac pro. I like it. It is a tower type of desktop which means easy to repair. an iMac is very complicated to repair compared to a mac pro. The iMac on the other hand began with a resemblence to the vintage Pizza Box and has now evolved to almost become a giant laptop...The screen bacame LCD or equivilent and the Hardware became smaller. The hardware items on newer iMacs are very small. This smaller hardware could mean energy efficiency. these days, Apple offers a Apple Back to School Sale: Buy a Mac, get an iPod touch for $0 after rebate FREE. here is a link

It really depends on what you plan to do with it. If you want to be able to take it places then I'd recommend the Macbook Pro, if you don't care then it's up to you.

The iMac has a much bigger screen than the Macbook Pro. The iMac will possibly havee a longer life because it has no battery.

The iMac has the whole computer built into the screen, it needs nothing else aside from a keyboard and mouse.

I just got the macbook pro 13, its portable so I say go with that over the iMac. Pro has a backlit keyboard, sd card slot and firewire 400. Its aluminum unibody is stronger and won't get as dirty quicker as the white macbooks plastic unibody
